Föreningen Nordisk Studentbostäder (NSBO)
The continuously co-operation between Nordic student housing companies was born in 1975, when the first ”Nordic Student Housing Conference" was held in Vasa in Finland. Since then the structure of the organization (at that time called NSBK) has been tighten up and from 1984 with its own regulations, board and sekretaricy. To day also the international dimension is in focus and there is close connections to Balticum, Germany and Great Britain.
The main purpose is sharing knowledge and get inspiration of planning, construction and maintenance of student housing and serving the students living in them. Furthermore an interest in the culture and history of the different countries has taken root and been strengthened.
Due to the meetings and conferences there has been made a lot of personal contacts between colleagues from the different countries and companies. These contacts have often led to further meetings, filed trips, new knowledge and experiences, and in many cases life-long friendships.
There is a tradition in Nordic countries that different welfare arrangements for students are organized by the students themselves, or by organizations – companies – with management sensitive to the requests of the student. In many other countries, the state or university takes care of the students’ ”welfare”.
The organizational forms and range of activities vary even between the different Nordic countries, but the activities are carried out in such a similar fashion that international co-operation has arisen within several different areas.
A backbone in the co-operation is the conference. The aim is to gather administrative representatives, or people working with student housing and to the conferences also government representatives, non-Nordic participants, politicians and others are invited.
